2007 NISOA Refresher Test

The 2007 NISOA refresher test and answer sheet is available for download. Please complete the test, print the answer sheet, fill it out and mail it to Steve Lewin. You must submit an answer sheet by August 27, 2007 to remain a member in good standing. You may bring the answer sheet with you to the annual rules meeting.

We are not sure when the 2007 NCAA Soccer Rules Books will be mailed to you but in the meantime, you can view an electronic version of it on our web site. As always, the refresher test is ‘open book.’

Makeup NISOA Fitness Test

July 24, 2007
5:00 pmto7:00 pm

Due to the unusually large number of members who have not taken the NISOA fitness test at either of the chapter’s scheduled tests, we will offer a makeup NISOA Fitness Test at Murphy Field on Fordham University’s Rose Hill campus at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Members who did not attend either of the scheduled tests will be assessed a $50 fee if they choose to take this makeup test. Optionally, you may take the NISOA Fitness test with another chapter provided they are accepting guests.

Members who wish to improve their score are invited to attend the makeup test as well.

Other NISOA Chapter Fitness Tests

The NY Metro ISOA chapter has administered our final scheduled NISOA fitness test for the 2007 season. NY Metro ISOA members who have not yet taken the NISOA fitness test will have to make arrangements with other chapters to take the fitness test and have the results reported directly to Joe Danbusky. The New Jersey chapter and several New England chapters will administer NISOA fitness tests later this summer.

NISOA Fitness Test Medical Forms

As always, the Executive Board strongly recommends members get a complete physical evaluation from their medical professional before taking the fitness tests. Bring this form to your medical professional, ask them to fill it out and bring it with you to the fitness test.

If you choose not to get a physical evaluation, please complete this form and bring it with you to the fitness test. Members will not be permitted to take the fitness test until they submit one of these two forms to the Executive Board at or before the fitness test.

Passing the NISOA Fitness Test

In 2003, NISOA completely revised the events in their physical performance test. The new events, 12 minute run, “The Pro-40 Test”, “Brazilian AR 50 meter test” and “The 30 meter shuffle” were developed based on the findings of leading researchers in the field of Soccer Referee Physiology. New scoring criteria were developed. In 2005, NISOA revised their policy to require renewing members to pass the fitness test with a minimum average score of 1.0 for the 4 individual events to maintain their member “in good standing” status. A full description of the policy, fitness tests and scoring criteria is available here.

The current NISOA policy as well as the current terms of our constitution allows the chapter (at its discretion) to place a renewing member who does not pass the fitness test under probation and assigned a game as an official for assessment purposes. This provision works well where there is a traditional NISOA Chapter Assignor. However, the NY Metro Chapter does not have a chapter assignor. Games are assigned exclusively by conference assignors such as ECAC, ISOAB, Atlantic 10, and Region XV. The chapter’s executive board cannot ensure members who fail the fitness test will have an opportunity to be assigned a game for assessment purposes. It’s a Catch 22. Read the rest of this entry »
