Longtime NY Metro ISOA member and Staten Island resident, Nick Kvasic recently transferred to the New Jersey Metro chapter. One of the first improvements to our web site was the addition of a photo gallery. Our own Lou Minutoli has taken this one step further with his own online photo web site. You will find a lot of familiar faces (probably your own as well) on Lou’s site. Lou produces outstanding, high quality action photos as well as pre-game officiating team photos. Check it out.
The terms for all elected chapter executive board positions expire on December 31, 2008. If you are interested in running for any of the positions, please contact Bob Soskis, Chairman of the Election Slate Committee as soon as possible. Nominations will be accepted at the October 6, 2008 chapter business meeting. Nominees for elected positions must be present at the October 6, 2008 meeting to accept the nomination. Nominees who are absent will only be considered if they notified the Executive Board, in writing before the meeting that they will accept the nomination. Elections will be held at the October 22, 2008 chapter business meeting.
Our own Alberto Giordano was chosen to officiate the Steve Nash Charity Soccer Showdown in Chinatown on June 25, 2008. He’s the one in the pink on this youtube video. Look for Thierry Henry and Claudio Reyna in the video. Titi doesn’t look too pleased with Alberto’s sense of justice in this picture.
Congratulations to the following candidates who attended all four sessions of the NY Metro ISOA candidate course and passed the NISOA Qualifying Exam:
Michael Andreaccio, Richard Gramolini, Saam Jalayer, Giuseppe Manzo, David Poli, Mario Rivas, Rafal Wlazlo, Steven Wowk and Paul Yonick.
The candidates will qualify for chapter membership upon successfully passing the NISOA Physical Fitness test and attending the chapter Mandatory Rules Meeting.
Several members have decided to hang up their boots, whistles and flags in 2008. Two notable members who are ending their college soccer officiating career are Mike Dieguez and Arnold Klein.
Mike Dieguez has been a chapter member for almost 25 years. A sports memorabilia collector, Mike was born and raised in Astoria, NY. He attended LIU on a baseball scholarship and was most recently the athletic director for the Oceanside school district.
Arnold Klein was the 2007 NISOA Region 2 Referee of the Year. You can read a more detailed biography of Arnold here.
