Starting this year, we are maintaining the chapter’s NISOA fitness test results on the chapter’s web server. This will allow members to receive their test results directly via email. After the test results are recorded, members may go to our web site to request their results and score. Fitness test scores are not shared with assignors nor made publicly available.
The NCAA Soccer Rules Committee has published the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer rules changes for 2008 and 2009. The changes are generally minor but include:
- Rules changes will occur on a two year cycle.
- The diagonal system of control shall be used. Reference to the dual system of control appears to have been deleted.
Full text of the rules changes is available for review or formatted for printing (pdf).
NISOA usually provides an official interpretation of the rules changes shortly after the Rules Committee completes their work. We will post the NISOA interpretation of the rules changes when it becomes available.
Several members have decided to hang up their boots, whistles and flags in 2008. Two notable members who are ending their college soccer officiating career are Mike Dieguez and Arnold Klein.
Mike Dieguez has been a chapter member for almost 25 years. A sports memorabilia collector, Mike was born and raised in Astoria, NY. He attended LIU on a baseball scholarship and was most recently the athletic director for the Oceanside school district.
Arnold Klein was the 2007 NISOA Region 2 Referee of the Year. You can read a more detailed biography of Arnold here.
We wish Mike and Arnold all the best in their future endeavours.
Congratulations to the following NY Metro ISOA members who have qualified and registered in 2008 as United States Soccer Federation National Referees:
- Stevan Ambrus
- Brian Dunn
- Jorge Gonzales
- Lee Suckle
We are very proud of your accomplishments!

NISOA National Assessor and friend of the NY Metro ISOA chapter, Gino D’Ippolito is on the 2008 National Soccer Hall of Fame ballot in the “Builder” category. Many of us have had the pleasure and honor of working with Gino over the years in his many roles on and off the soccer field here in the New York metropolitan area. Gino was a FIFA International referee for many years as well as a distinguished NISOA , NASL and MISL referee. While Hall of Fame voting is not open to the public, please visit the National Soccer Hall of Fame web site and participate in the informal poll. Good luck, Gino!!
Congratulations to Nabil Al-Saeidi for being accepted into the NISOA National Referee program as a National Referee Candidate. The NISOA National Referee certification cycle runs for two years. Over the next two years, Nabil will have to attend the National Referee camp and pass six assessments as a prerequisite for achieving National Referee status.
We are very excited that Nabil, along with our only active National Referee, Jim Memos, will represent our chapter with impeccable integrity and superior performance on and off the field.
The 2008 NY Metro ISOA meeting schedule is now available. Get the dates, times and locations for the NISOA fitness test, the annual mandatory rules clinic, awards dinner and business meetings. Read the rest of this entry »
